TFDA Dance Company

The following information is a brief insight as to some of the obligations to being a member of
the Take Five Dance Company.

Company Members:
The Take Five Dance Academy Company is a group of dancers who posses enthusiasm, love and passion for the art of dance. The Company class curriculum is similar to an “advanced placement” program designed for the serious student who, with their academic responsibilities have a desire to make dance training a priority. Company dancers are given various performing opportunities in addition to participation in dance conventions, competitions and festivals.

Company alumni have achieved unprecedented success in pursuing their dreams as professional dance artists. Graduates have also been accepted to the finest colleges and universities; whether they choose dance as a life goal or not.

Being a member of the Company requires dancers to be responsible, reliable, dedicated, cooperative, honest, enthusiastic, compassionate, hard working, well-behaved and most importantly, a team player.

A formal invitation to audition is given to less than 10% of our dancers. However, this does not guarantee acceptance into the Company.

Company Parents:
Being a parent of a Company dancer requires cooperation, supportiveness, respect of policies and procedures, trust and honor of faculty and administrative decisions and financial requirements paid in a timely manner.

Class requirements:
All Company members must be enrolled in and paying for classes throughout our dance season. Company membership is a twelve month obligation. Summer vacations are obviously acceptable,
but attendance during the summer is required.

The following are the required classes for Company members. However, additional classes are offered.

2- Ballet
1- Jazz
1- Jazz Technique (Levels 2/3/4)
1- Tap
1- Acro

These are technique classes only. This does not include choreography rehearsals or practice rehearsals for upcoming performances.

Hip Hop, Theater and Modern classes are considered optional and are not required
to be in the Company.

The average Company dancer’s time commitment is:
Ages 8 to 12: attend classes 2-3 days weekly, 1 weekend day for rehearsals
Ages 12 and up: attend classes 3-4 days weekly, 1-2 weekend days for rehearsals

Absences:
Dancers are required to attend all of their classes. In the event of an absence, classes must be made up. When the class is made up it will be erased from the studio roll books and acknowledged as an attended class.

All absences must be reported to the studio. Leaving a message prior to a class or rehearsal on the studio voice mail is acceptable and appreciated.

Again, Company membership is a twelve month obligation. Summer vacations are obviously acceptable, but attendance during the summer is required. If a dancer is not able to attend classes in July and/or August, they will not be able to participate in performances, conventions or competitions during the months of September through December.

It takes dancers many months to catch up and re-gain technique from one or two months of missed classes during the summer. Dancers who continue their education through the summer continue to progress and excel.

Rehearsals:
Extra rehearsal time is necessary and important. Dancers must be able to attend any rehearsals that are needed by a teacher or choreographer in order to prepare for a festival, show or competition. Dancers must leave their schedules open and available 7 days prior to any type of performance.

Mandatory rehearsals are required of each company dancer the week prior to a festival,
show or competition.

Financial obligations:
• Monthly tuition(12 months)
• Recital/Competition costumes
• Competition entry fees
• Competition choreography fees/rehearsal fees
• Convention/master class tuition
• Professional music editing (specialty routines)
• Convention travel expenses(optional in most cases)
• Private lessons(if necessary)

Being a Company member is a privilege and requires dedication, cooperation and support from both dancers and parents. Over the years the staff of Take Five Dance has developed a group of dancers that not only are talented and respected for their abilities but are dancers who possess qualities that make them some of the best, well rounded kids in the west valley.
